Walking around the Northern Rivers

Tripping is surely one of my favorites avocations and walking around the Northern Rivers was one of the most satisfying and contemplative experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Northern Rivers is a region of the Australian state of New South Whales. With over 300 km of rugged headlands, sheltered coves, sweeping open beaches and hallowed surf breaks, the Promised Land must surely be the Northern Rivers.
The Northern Rivers is a perfect combination of greens and blues, with 6 of World Heritage Listed National Parks, hidden valleys, rain-forests, historic villages and rivers linking the mountains with the sea.
We’ve been camping and road tripping from Byron Bay to Broken Head and down to Lennox and Ballina. Lennox is home to a National Surfing Reserve and amongst the top ten breaks in Australia. With amazing cliffs that keep you wondering and nearly believing one has found heaven on earth, I hope with all my heart that this land stays the way it is today some hundreds of years more because people deserves to experience the dreamtime. For this @sweetocean_, the Northern Rivers feels like home.
One of the highlights for me was discovering that 119 communities in this area have declared themselves Gasfield Free zone; the sense of respect for the land and future generations is pure and strong. Behind all this powerful initiative there is a non profit organisation called Lock The Gate which is known today as the greatest social and environmental movement in Australia’s history and is gaining enormous momentum. Young generations, artists, musicians, surfers, divers, researchers, writers and big communities are joining full of passion to keep Australia safe, protect our water, our food and our future.
This is our beach culture in Australia; it involves surfing and it involves community and with it, the wellbeing of the people, their land and their ocean.
Thanks for the good times to a bunch of great and inspiring photographers instagramers that have been part of these trips @sunburntpenguinphotography @sabbiak @shaun_morris_photographer @d413cleg @peta78 @juliamaygc @tan1010
